Welcome to Exeter Friends Peace Card Project

The students of the Exeter Friends First Day School in Berks County, PA want to spread messages of peace. They created the designs on the peace cards which are being circulated one by one to reach as many people as possible. Once you have received a peace card, please post your location (town, state, country) on this blog. We want to see how far our message of peace reaches. Please spread the peace!

We are sending a peace card to Downingtown--not too far away, but we will enjoy seeing where it goes from there! As Carl Sandburg says:
"The single clenched fist lifted and ready, Or the open hand held out and waiting. Choose: For we meet by one or the other."~~ Secretary of State Clinton seems to be promoting we choose to hold out an open hand, and wouldn't it be great if everyone tried this?

Two of the most useful questions we can ask, whatever our age and whatever circumstances we are in, are these: what does it mean to be at peace with ourselves, and what does it mean to be at peace with others. These questions need to be asked day to day throughout our lives, and sometimes asked moment to moment, especially when we are, and others are, upset and unhappy.
What must we do, and not do, to be at peace with ourselves and others? What teachers have given us guidance, by living example and by wise instruction, about how to be at peace? What have they said and done? What do religious and spiritual tradition and practice teach us about a life of peace?

Greeting form Oley, Pa. Thank you for the love, warmth and message of peace through your lovely artwork. The card is a reminder of our individual responsibility toward peace. It has suggested to me to think about how I exercise my own gift offerings of peace.

"Every act of love is a work of peace no matter how small."
-Mother Teresa

May we all find favor in peace and share it:)

A sense of peace and warmth fills my heart each time I come to worship in your/our 200 year old meeting house. Perhaps the warmth comes just as much from the sweet fellowship of members as the heat emanating from the potbelly stove in the center of the meeting.

Check out the movie, Rosenstrasse, about a peaceful demonstration in Berlin by the "Aryan" wives of Jewish husbands. They kept a week long vigil in the street in the cold of early spring asking to have their husbands back. The men were freed!

One can only wonder what could have been avoided if others had peacefully stood in support of their Jewish neighbors when the SS guards came for them.

Peace...who needs our support today?

I'm definitely leaving it somewhere in the open. Maybe at my school or something.

Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free.

We got our card from our AWESOME nieces Haley and Lily in Exeter, PA. We'll be sending it on with a message of peace from Los Angeles, CA.

I picked up one or your cards in a geo-cache just outside of Wytheville, Va. This town is at the crossroads of I-81 and I-77. I think I will place it in another cache in this area and let it take off again. Love the art work!!!

My card is beautiful, whirls of color nestled inside a peace sign.
First I will live with this it a while and let it minister to me, and then I will give it to someone who needs peace.
Peace, in an imperfect world, is about releasing pain, trusting enough that the universe can witness one's pain and then contain it for you, so you don't have to keep it close to your heart. Then you are open again to love and all else.

I found this peace card in a geo-cach with perfect timing, I'm sending it to a friend who is temporarily in St. Louis, MO and will soon return home to Southeastern NC. Given the journey ahead of him, there's really no telling where the card will end up but I'm happy to be a part of this project as I'm certain he will be as well.

We had a lovely stay at your hotel. Everyone was so nice and the newly renovated rooms were beautiful! Have a wonderful time on your honeymoon in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. I hope that the person who finds the peace card there leaves a message on our blog too. Wishing you peace and happiness!

Just found a peace card in one of my purses that I hadn't used for a while. Had picked it up in a geocache over a year ago--one in Chester County PA if I recall correctly--and placed it in that purse with the intention to log on here then pass it along. Well, better late than never!! This one didn't travel far--I'm in Birdsboro PA. Will definitely pass it on, though. Not sure if anyone checks here anymore, but what a wonderful idea!!!
